Jen was sent an Aurorae Northern Lights Yoga Mat, a Crossbody Sling Backpack, and a Soy Pledge Candle to review. Last month, I decided to start trying out the craze I see everywhere – yoga! Before receiving my products from Aurorae and beginning yoga, I thought I might want to find out just what I should be looking for, in a yoga mat. I found the answer in 4 simple explanations over HERE. Mindbodygreen.com suggested the top 4 qualities in a yoga mat, that you should be searching for when buying one.
1. Material – I need a Phthalate and latex free mat that allows for a slight stickiness (since I sweat a lot when I work out) and I want a nice grip . My Aurorae mat couldn’t have fit this better. Their eco-safe mats are phthalate and latex free, with a little bit of a stick.
2. Thickness – the site suggests that a thicker mat might be better for someone that does a lot of inversion positions, but if I plan to tote my mat around a bit, I would be ok with a thinner one. I still need a decent amount of cushion to help maintain balance, though. The Northern Lights Auraroae mat is 5mm thick to help absorb impact on joints. I love that because my joints are definitely in need of some TLC!
3. Texture – Traction seems to be the key here. Although some more experienced athletes may prefer a smoother, gliding surface, the beginning might consider more grooves. This, again, helps with traction and grip. Thankfully, Aurorae knows their business, because they make several types of mat – for every level! The Northern Lights mat that I received is extra long (72″x24″) and has a nice amount of crevices and grooves on it
4. Color/Design – the last tip that the site gives for finding a great yoga mat is the pattern and hue of your mat. Just as you want to dress with comfort and move flowingly in your workout garb, you’ll want a mat that’s pleasant to look at and easy to get creative with while working out. Aurorae nailed it with this tip! The Northern Lights Yoga Mat has an ombre effect, with a golden sun focal icon and natural solar colors. In fact, no 2 mats are identical – which makes me like them even more!
My favorite part of the Crossbody Sling Backpack is the design. It can be thrown on your back with ease, and stays put with comfort. There are several places to store clothing, water bottles and even my new mat! Another awesome feature is that the front flap pocket has a specialty designed wet liner, so that after working out, I can throw my icky, stinky clothing in there! This will be an awesome bag to carry with or without my yoga gear.
These Aurorae Soy Wax candles are amazing. Each scent is meant to inspire you and put you into a yoga-ready state of mind. They are 100% soy wax, which means there is no black smoke, pure scent and up to 35 hours of burn time. These are great for aromatherapy, as well! My cinnamon candle definitely forced some creativity into my head, as I was burning it!
So, I’m all set! I have my tips for finding the perfect mat for me. I have my awesome Aurore mat, I have a crossbody bag to tote my mat and essentials around in, and I have my pledge candle to light when I start stretching. I’m really grateful that this company puts so much care and consideration into their products and customer service, and definitely recommend checking them out, whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a beginner like me!
